Wrightsville Beach Sea Turtle Project volunteers walk the beach daily

A new turtle nest has been found at Wrightsville Beach!  That makes two this year, according to the Wrightsville Beach Sea Turtle Project, a group of caring volunteers that works on a daily basis to help protect the sea turtles of Wrightsville Beach and surrounding areas. Their project coordinator is Nancy Fahey. She is a true, dedicated turtle person!

Each summer, volunteers walk the length of Wrightsville Beach every morning at sunrise to look for new sea turtle nests. This allows us to help protect the sea turtle eggs, and ensure that the baby sea turtles hatch safely.

The public is welcome to observe when the baby sea turtles make their first steps from the dunes of Wrightsville Beach to the Atlantic ocean. It is an utterly amazing experience! You can check this page regularly to receive information pertaining to sea turtle hatchings, and other public events where we, the representatives of the Wrightsville Beach Sea Turtle Project, will be happy to meet and speak with you about our efforts.

The Wrightsville Beach Sea Turtle Project also works in close conjunction with the Karen Beasley Rescue and Rehabilitation Center of Topsail Island.
